That One Construction Co. is a roofing contractor serving Becker and the surrounding Sherburne County area. Whether you’re dealing with storm damage, a roof from the early 2000s reaching the end of its run, or just want a straight answer about what you’re looking at, we can inspect your roof and handle the work from permit to final inspection.
Becker’s housing is newer than most of the communities we serve. The median construction year is 1997, and more than a third of the city’s homes, 34.6%, went up between 2000 and 2009. Less than 5% of the housing stock predates 1940. That means a lot of Becker’s roofs are approaching the same milestone at close to the same time: the 25 to 30 year mark where a standard asphalt shingle reaches the end of its rated life.
For a lot of homeowners here, that’s a first-time conversation. You bought the house new or close to it, you’ve kept it up, and now the roof itself is telling you something regardless of how well you’ve maintained everything else. Knowing what to expect from that process, timeline, cost, what a fair quote looks like, matters more when you haven’t done it before.
The first is storm damage. Sherburne County sits in the same severe weather corridor as Elk River and Big Lake, and Becker has had confirmed hail impact as recently as July 2023. Damage from that kind of event doesn’t always announce itself. Granule loss and cracked shingles can look like ordinary wear from the ground while quietly shortening a roof’s remaining life. If there’s a legitimate claim, we meet the adjuster on-site, manage the estimate, and handle any dispute that comes up.
The second is a roof simply reaching its rated age. No storm required, just enough Minnesota winters. Either way, we start with a free inspection and hold ourselves to the insurance industry’s own 50% rule: if less than half the roof needs work, we say repair, not replace, even when that’s the less profitable answer for us.
Every roof in this part of the state deals with the same two stresses regardless of how old it is. Freeze-thaw cycling drives water under shingle edges through the winter, and each cycle of freezing and expansion pries them a little looser from the deck. That’s why nailing patterns matter: shingles need enough play to move without cracking.
Ice dams are the other one, and they trace back to the attic rather than the roof surface. Heat escaping a poorly ventilated attic melts the snow at the ridge, that water refreezes at the cold eave, and it eventually backs up under the shingle line and into the house, usually turning up as a ceiling stain well after the fact. New shingles don’t solve that on their own; getting the intake and exhaust balance right does. Minnesota code requires ice and water shield at the eaves for this reason, and we build it into every job we do here.
If you’re in the City of Becker itself, not Becker Township, which is a separate government covering the surrounding area under the same zip code, the city recently changed how permits get handled. As of this spring, Becker contracted with Rum River Consultants to serve as its designated building official after the previous one departed, and permits and inspections now run through the city’s site online. A full replacement still needs a permit under the Minnesota State Building Code, with two inspections, one after tear-off and ice barrier installation and a final one at completion. We handle the permit and both inspections as a standard part of the job, and we know to check which jurisdiction actually applies to your address before we file anything.
Joe Huber built homes from the ground up in Sherburne County before moving into exterior contracting, this county specifically. That’s directly relevant here: he knows what a house from the early 2000s in this part of the county typically shows once the shingles come off, and how the grade and drainage tend to run on these lots.
We also keep dedicated staff whose full-time job is insurance communication, not something handled between installs. And job site cleanup is a standing rule on every job we run: magnetic passes for nails, landscaping protected, the garage door boarded during work. None of that happens automatically on a typical job site. With us, it’s part of what you’re getting.
We also work in Big Lake, Monticello, and Elk River. If you’re in Becker and need a roofer, start with a free inspection, no obligation, and a straight answer about what your roof actually needs.
