Roofing Contractor in Cambridge, WI
That One Construction Co. is a roofing company serving Cambridge and the surrounding communities in Dane and Jefferson counties. Whether a storm has damaged your roof or years of Wisconsin weather have simply worn it down, a roofer from That One Construction Co. can walk the roof, give you a straight answer, and handle the work from permit to final inspection.
Cambridge is one of the few villages in this area that actually sits in two counties, most of it in Dane, a smaller piece across in Jefferson. It’s a historic settlement, built up around a dam on Koshkonong Creek back in 1847, and the old Cambridge Public School building from 1905 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction here spans decades, centered on a median build year of 1991, with roughly one in six homes predating 1940 and about one in five going up in the 2000s, so a roofer working here sees a genuine range of ages, not just one era of construction.

Joe, the owner, had flexible hours for meetings (quote and going over the plan) and he was very knowledgeable understanding our needs. We were very happy with the work and interactions with all the people associated with the company and we would recommend them to others.Posted on Thumbtack Cheryl M.Verified 5 Star!!! We hired Joe to be our main contractor after a tree fell on our shop wrecking the deck, the stucco and putting a hole in the roof, plus other misc damage. He did an excellent job managing the project. He handled everything with professionalism and plenty of communication which made the process a lot less stressful. He also did a lot if the work himself, his work was very well done and our shop turned out super nice! Thanks Joe!
Two Reasons Cambridge Homeowners Call a Roofing Contractor
The first reason is storm damage. Dane County records more tornadoes than any other county in Wisconsin, and Cambridge has had its own close calls, including a funnel cloud spotted just northeast of the village in May 2024 during a broader severe thunderstorm system. Whether or not a storm leaves visible damage, a free roof inspection is the only real way to know what’s going on up there. If a claim does come out of it, we manage the adjuster conversation, put the estimate together, and follow up if the insurer’s number falls short, whether that means a roof repair or a full roof replacement.
The second reason has nothing to do with weather. With a typical roof in the village going back to around 1991, a lot of Cambridge homes are due for a second look regardless of storms. That conversation starts with a free inspection too, and we use the 50% rule insurers rely on: repair below that line, replace above it.
Storm Risk in the Cambridge Area
Cambridge itself hasn’t taken a major confirmed hit in recent years, but that’s not the same as being out of the way. In May 2024, a funnel cloud was reported about a mile northeast of the village during a two-round severe thunderstorm event that produced tornadoes elsewhere in southern Wisconsin that night. No damage was documented in Cambridge specifically from that storm. Since 1950, Dane County has logged roughly 80 tornadoes, more than any other county in the state, and Cambridge sits inside that count even in years when nothing touches down within the village itself.
Permits and Wisconsin's Statewide Roofing Code in Cambridge
Every roof in Wisconsin, Cambridge included, falls under the same statewide Uniform Dwelling Code: an ice and water barrier is required on any roof sloped 4:12 or less over living space or an attached garage, running at least 30 inches up from the eave and 12 inches past the inside wall. Cambridge contracts its building inspection out to MSA Professional Services rather than running an in-house department, so permits and inspections go through that firm. Any contractor working here still needs the state-issued Dwelling Contractor certification required everywhere in Wisconsin.
Why That One Construction Co. Is the Right Cambridge Roofer
Joe Huber built homes from the ground up before moving into exterior work, and that background shapes how he reads a roof: how the deck ties into the framing, whether the attic is properly vented, not just what shingles are on top.
Before work starts, we send a prep email covering what to expect, when the crew shows up, what each day looks like, when inspections happen. For a roof job on a house built in the 1990s or earlier, that’s often the first major exterior project a homeowner has gone through.
Making sure it looks like we weren’t there is a standard we hold on every job, not a slogan. Magnet passes for nails, landscaping protected before the crew starts, garage doors boarded during the work.
