Stoughton has one of the strongest Norwegian heritage identities in this part of Wisconsin, with a citywide Syttende Mai celebration every May and Norwegian flags and memorabilia visible around town year-round. The city’s Main Street Commercial Historic District includes some genuinely striking architecture, including the Iverson-Johnson House, an 1898 home known for the dragon-head decorations carved into its roof gables. It’s the kind of detail that says something about how much this community has always cared about what’s on top of its homes.
Two Reasons Stoughton Homeowners Call a Roofing Contractor
Two Tornadoes, 17 Years Apart, in the Same Stoughton Neighborhood
On August 18, 2005, an F3 tornado tracked roughly 20 miles before reaching Stoughton, damaging nearly 200 homes, destroying 48 of them in the Waubesa Heights subdivision, and hitting luxury homes near the Stoughton Country Club particularly hard. One person was killed along the storm’s path.
Seventeen years later, on March 5, 2022, an NWS-confirmed EF-1 tornado with winds near 95 miles per hour touched down about four miles southeast of Stoughton and struck almost the exact same area the 2005 tornado had hit. Nearly 200 homes were damaged again, and separate straight-line winds of 70 to 80 miles per hour caused additional damage on the southwest side of the city. The mayor declared a state of emergency.
Two confirmed tornado events in the same neighborhood, 17 years apart, is about as strong a case as you’ll find anywhere for taking a storm-damaged roof seriously, even when the damage isn’t obvious. A roof-level inspection tells you what’s actually there.
Housing in Stoughton spans a real range of ages, too. Roughly one in five homes here were built before 1940, and the citywide median puts most of the rest around the late 1970s. Between the age of the housing stock and the storm history, there’s rarely a shortage of reasons a Stoughton roof needs a second look.

Why That One Construction Co. Is the Right Stoughton Roofer
Making sure it looks like we weren’t there is the standard we hold every crew to, and it matters even more on a street that’s already been through one storm, let alone two. We protect the yard before anything comes off the roof, and every job ends with a full pass for stray nails.
We also stick to the same 50% threshold insurance companies use to judge total loss. A lot of contractors push a full roof replacement at the first sign of damage. If a section can be repaired without touching the rest of the roof, that’s what we’ll tell you.
We’re independently owned too, with no private equity investor telling us where to cut corners to hit a margin target. After what this neighborhood has already been through twice, that’s not the kind of shortcut we’re willing to take.
